Hey, I'm Peter — but you can call me Pete.
I'm a registered nurse with years of nursing experience, and I also work as a consultant for medical centers, hospitals, and nursing homes. NurseRoot is my way of contributing something beyond my day-to-day work: a place where nurses can find clearer information, ask better questions, and make decisions with a little more confidence.
Before anything else, though, I want to say thank you.
Thank you for the kindness you bring to difficult moments. For your dedication when the work gets demanding. And for the patience you show — to patients, families, colleagues, and everyone who needs something from you during a busy shift.
That work deserves recognition. So does the person doing it.
Why I created NurseRoot
Nursing comes with questions that don't end when your shift does.
Is another qualification worth the cost? What should you check before accepting a job? Can you afford a role that pays less but fits your life better?
When looking for answers, I've found myself moving from one website to another, trying to piece together information that was incomplete, conflicting, or no longer current. Sometimes, a long article still didn't answer the question I started with.
I created NurseRoot to make that process a little simpler.
Not to pretend every problem has an easy answer. Not to tell you there is one right career path or one perfect financial decision. But to help you understand what matters, what needs checking, and what you can do next.
What I want you to find here
My aim is to make NurseRoot useful in practical ways:
- Clear explanations that get to the question you came to answer.
- Sources you can check for yourself.
- Checklists and worksheets that help turn information into a next step.
- Honest limits when the evidence doesn't settle something.
My nursing and consulting experience informs the questions I ask. It does not make me an expert in every subject — or mean that my experience will match yours.
You deserve to know the difference between a documented fact, an example, and a question that still needs an answer.
A person beyond the job
Away from work, I enjoy football, a good burger, family gatherings, and a vacation to look forward to.
Nothing particularly extraordinary — just the people and moments that make life feel like more than a work schedule.
That matters to the way I think about NurseRoot, too. A career decision isn't only about a title. A financial decision isn't only about a number. They're also about the life you want room for.
My ambition for this site is straightforward: to make it genuinely helpful to the nursing community, one useful page at a time.
Help me make it better
If something is unclear, a source has changed, or we haven't addressed a question that matters to you, please tell me.
Thoughtful feedback — including corrections — is welcome. I would rather improve a page than leave a reader with an answer that doesn't help.
You can reach NurseRoot at pscaffo@nurseroot.com. Please don't include patient information or sensitive personal records.
Thanks for being here — and for the work you do.
